And the Winner is...

So every year I choose a song that defines my year. Whether it be the ups and downs or a song I could just bang to over and over and over and over again. I basically pick my song of the year. past couple of years were some real great tracks in my opinion. 2007: Us Placers - CRS(Lupe, Kanye West, Pharell) -[Well it was technically early 08 but it still won out lol]. 2008: Swagger Like Us - TI feat Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Jay-Z [<--- Def might be my song of the Decade lol but we will get to that later].. Now on to the ever pressing issue of 2009s SONG OF THE YEAR!!! Well I will let you guys help me decide here are the options:

1.Pretty Girls - Wale Ft. Gucci Mane
2. Pretty Wings - Maxwell
3. Empire State of Mind - Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys
4. A Star is Born - Jay-Z ft. J. Cole
5. Wasted(Remix) - Gucci Mane ft. Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, Birdman

VOTE!!

Uhhh, Lupe Still Got it Folks!

What irks me about the "music scene" is the consensus when I talk with people or read blogs is that after Jay-Z, Kanye, Eminem, & Weezy there's everyone else. I laugh at this because in terms of sales yeah I guess you can say that. But Ive never held sales over talent, appeal, skill, impact. The wave of artists who ALWAYS get left in this secondary room are guys like Nas (yeah I know legend but you would be shocked how many idiots call themselves Hip Hop experts), Joe Budden,  Ludacris, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Andre 3000, Lupe Fiasco, and I could go on for days. Sidebar- MTV's hottest MC's list was a joke (even Q-Tip said that so uhhh yeah Im gonna agree with that) But for the sake of this blog post Im gonna focus on one of Chicago's Finest Mr. Fiasco. And if you dont agree with me listen to Lupe's newest mixtape Enemy of the State which is better than I dont know 80% of the albums that dropped this year. 1 Track (yes, absolute genius who does that!) & 22 minutes of brilliance. He hasnt fallen off, slowed down, or even come close to crossing over. He continues to come out with top flight Hip Hop with concrete mixtapes as well as solid studio albums. Hes in my top ten & if you have the gaul to call yourself a Hip Hop Head he better be in yours.

The 'U' featured on NigeriaMusicMovement.com

The first of what will surely be many website, magazine, blog, video features for the Jersey Native. The 'U' has been featured on NigerianMusicMovement.com The feature has 4 exclusive tracks off 'U' Jersey Vol 1 & 2 (Double CD) which was released in September as well as a brief personal bio of each straight from The 'U' himself. Ol' School Back Packer, throwback, son of Nigerian immigrants, funny, goofy, unique dude who goes by one letter, or just mad African. If you ask him which title he would prefer he would probably say all of them!

The 'U's Feature on NIgerian Music Movement

(Artist Spotlight): I Rocks with the Boogie man

This guy to the right is one of my favorite artist (and probably one of the most underrated calls himself the "Don Cheadle of the rap game" lol). I have the honor of saying that I went to high school with him (how many folks can say that lol). Also notice that I said artist and not rapper because his art is as far reaching and expansive as you can think of. Some of the most eclectic stuff I have ever heard.. One of my favorite songs from him The "New Shoes" Song (I go bang) Has a funky mix of hip hop with 80s pop and M.I.A. and thats still not even the tip of the Iceberg. He writes poetry, he is a lyricist, plays several instruments, he produces his own music. On top of all that the guy runs his own website and has his own blog. I mean the dudes pretty awesome. And with all of that he is still as humble a guy as you will ever meet.  Checkout his sites. Has bunch of free music for download and some pretty interesting stuff on his blog. I'm a fan and Im sure you will be to. I would like to present to you guys my man Sah Ril.

His Website: http://www.sahril.com/
His Blog: Sah TV
His Twitter: Theonenonlysah
His Album(FREE FOR DOWNLOAD): Wet.Plug.Trip.

BONUS: I also had the honor of doing a review of some of his music and his Album so check it out:

Gangsta is SOOOO 2007

Whats good people. This is a collaborative post from me (Sdot) and The 'U'. We are huge hip hop fans even of the new wave of guys. (Check my post about Class is in Session-[shameless plug]). Three of those guys that are doing it real BIG! And I guess you could have each VOQ member be correlated to them - Wale(The U), Kid Cudi(Yours Truly), and Drake(Hudini)... (Although my style probably more reflects Wale but in terms of fandom 'accurate).. So to the post at hand lol.. These fellas got a pretty fresh spread in the upcoming December Issue of GQ magazine that has been gettin a lot of attention on a bunch of other sites.. Im not a fan of reposting... But I'm Only 1/3 of VOQ so I got to do what my peeps suggest. It is news worthy though.. Check em out..

If Jersey had its own Currency...

I have over the course of this year met and spoken to many rappers(and other music artist) from Jersey and other places. Asking for Reviews, and to listen to their mixtape or singles or LP.. but one guy I got the chance to actually meet (who has stood out) and have built good networking relationship with is a dude by the name of H-Money. The second independent MC(and I don't use this term lightly) I had the chance to review his mixtape the Umbrella Mixtape (free for download). Since then we developed a good line of communication and he has helped to introduce me to some the premier Jersey artist, lyricist and the like(for that I am greatful) and I have helped him to expand his lyrical range and to continually improve as an artist (Win/Win situation... I know lol). Now its time for me to introduce him to you guys. SO GET FAMILIAR because you will be seeing him in the future. Also look out for the I'm So Jersey Mixtape coming NOV. 20TH.

'U' Will Know Him

I think I'm going to take a line from two of my favorite artists/people I look up to (Wale Folarin & 'Moo')...I'm not a rapper. Im not! I'm an artist! I'm an artist who just happens to rap or rhyme over instrumentals or whatever the kids call it these days. Yes, I started out a comedian a few years back but the thing with me is when youve grown up in Newark/East Orange, NJ & have Nigerian immigrants for parents & lived through and experienced the things I have you have to smile & laugh. In the midst of my pain my joy is not too far away. I love music so much & care about the direction of it (Hip Hop in particular) so much that if I didnt decide to throw in my 2 cents and be apart of it I'd never be able to live with myself. What separates me from the other Billion cats on this earth in this "rat race" for a record deal, money, cars, big booty girls, & fame? Well for starters I'm not in it for any of that. Rappers chase those things. Rappers chase the life. Rappers chase dreams. Artists live dreams. Artists turn dreams into reality. When you hear a song by me you see the song. You see my words & feel what Im feeling. Its easy to take on a name, gimmick, or persona. I refused to do that. Which is why I took on the 'U' My first, middle, & last letter in my government name ('U'goch'U'kw'U'). And everytime you see not hear one of my songs, you will understand what the big deal is about the kid who goes by one letter. Because seriously to be honest with you, all I need is one letter to make you understand 'U'
