#Sports: Thank You Brian Cashman!

I've been a life long New York Yankee fan since the age of 7 and as a Jersey native, that's kind of a big deal. I've grown up during the wonder years of Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettite fueling the bombers to 5 world titles and having the Bombers in contention every year. Last year as well as this year have been beyond frustrating. So with the trade deadline now over I've got to give some love to Brian Cashman, Yankees GM for doing what has been needed to be done for quite some time now. He took 3 All-Stars, Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, and Carlos Beltran (Ivan Nova too lol) and turned them into 12 electrifying, young, talented prospects. The Yankee farm system has been slim for years which happens when you build your team through trades and free agency year after year which just doesn't seem to work anymore. Cashman understood this and wisely convinced Hal and company to make these trades to secure the future of the Evil Empire. Oh yea, how could I forget! In 2 years, some guy named Bryce Harper and some other guys named Manny Mochado and Jose Fernandez will be free agents too. Lets say hypothetically the Yankees get 2 of those guys coupled with the influx of young prospects who will be well-seasoned by then and you could pretty much cue the Star Wars Empire Strikes Back theme music as loud as possible. Just look at what the Chicago Cubs are doing now. Thanks to Brian Cashman, the Yanks could be an even younger, more dominant version of that. I'm fine with that and if you're a Yankee fan you should be too.

Visions Vibes: Aitch - Drinkin and Women

Today's #VisionsVibes is from an artist whose journey I've watched unfold for the better part of the last 8 years. A Jersey native by the name of Aitch (formerly H-Money). I've watched as a close confidant and from a distance as he's mastered his craft and steadily grown into the artist on the cusp of stardom. He is a lyrical tactician with the swagger of a north jersey native and the flow to boot. His most recent single Drink and Women embodies his style of artistry and shows he has found his lane and is pushing forward full throttle. This is a name you need to remember because you will be hearing much more often. Check out Aitch's track Drinking and Women after the jump! Also checkout his Soundcloud, SnapchatTwitter, and Instagram

Visions Vibes: Drake - One Dance featuring Wizkid & Kyla

Today's  #VisionsVibes are from the Hitmaker himself, Drake. His most recent release "One Dance" is a dancehall/hip hop/house music crossover that seems like a reprise to Rihanna's "Work". This track has been on repeat ever since I saw it in a hilarious video, from internet celebrities King Keraun and Simone Shepherd, on the oddly true fact that some songs just grow on you pretty quickly even if you don't start out liking it. Check their video out here. One Dance definitely catches your attention with how melodic the beat is and will keep you dancing. It's reminiscent of Drake and Rihanna's "Take Care" in that sense. This track also helps build the growing anticipation for Drake's forthcoming album "Views From the Six" expected to release just in time for the summer. So check out the track below and jam out for the week. ENJOY!

Visions Vibes: Chance the Rapper - Favorite Song

My visions vibes for this week takes us back a few years! I'm admittedly new to the Chance the Rapper wave but I'm a die hard Childish Gambino fan and this song is the perfect collaboration of the two. Keeping it simple this week! Check the song and the album Acid Rap which is where it comes from. Enjoy!

Visions Vibes: Big K.R.I.T. - Just Last Week

Hey guys! Today's Visions Vibes is also a bit of a throwback! Today April 10th 2016 marks the 3rd anniversary of Big K.R.I.T.'s Album King Remembered In Time! This album was a true classic in my eyes and solidified K.R.I.T. as on of my favorite rappers and one of the top southern rappers of this generation. So in honor of the release, my #VisionsVibes track is "Just Last Week" featuring Future. This track was featured as a snippet on the album and the original track released later. It's truly a dope track that converges turn up and lyrical skill in the right sweet spot. Enjoy the track and the full album below!

U-Goboy Lands On CBS News-New York

Me and Mars Troy are leaving Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice in 4D-X live in Gotham and with CBS News-New York standing by requesting some face time, how do you say no to that?!!! Yes, they butchered my name but hey free promo is still the best. Mars is in the intro, and I come in at the 1:22 mark! Sidebar: the movie was perfection and after seeing it 3 times I'm thoroughly happy with both DC and Zack Snyder!

Spotlight: Phife Dawg's 5 Best Rhymes

We lost a Hip Hop legend on March 22, 2016. Malik Izaak Taylor passed away at the age of 45. It hurts because A Tribe Called Quest is legitimately the reason why Visions of Quest even exist. I was truly heart broken to hear the news. Nonetheless, in true Tribe fashion I'm going to keep the focus on Phife's (Beats), Rhymes and Life.  A tenacious MC originally from Trinidad (Which is where my family is from also), who consistently shined when ever he graced a verse. Phife Dawg was lyrically masterful in his own right as the figurative "underdog" of A Tribe Called Quest. He more often than not would outshine the groups leader, Q-tip, with his witty word play and smooth flows. Today's post is a dedication to his style, skill and artistry as a member of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest.

So many sites and magazines have been paying their respect by playing some classics from Tribe and making their usual list. Billboard did a tribute of Phife's top 5 lines and I felt like I should do a list of favorite lines from the 5-foot assassins myself, as theirs left a little bit to be desired. So I had to go into the archives and find some of Phife's best/most influential lines! Tell me what you think of my top 5! Here's Billboards' Top 5 lines

5. Oh My God
"One for the Treble, two for the base, you know the style Tip it's time to flip this, I like my beats hard like two day old shits, stay eating like booty MCs like Cheese Grits"

4. Buggin' Out
"Microphone Check one two what is this, the five foot assassin with the roughneck business, I float like gravity, I never had a cavity, got more rhymes then the Winans got family." (Fast foward to about 3:36 to get to Buggin out)

3. Electric Relaxation (Basically all his verses from this song but this rhyme scheme in particular)
"I like them brown, yellow, Puerto Rican or Haitian, my name is Phife Dawg from the Zulu nation. I told you in the jam that we could get down, now let's knock the boots like the group H town. You got BBD up on your bedroom wall, but I'm above the rim and this is how I'll ball."

2. Award Tour
"Comin with more hits than the Braves and the Yankees, Livin mad phat like an over sized Bam-bi, The wackest crews try to dis, it makes me laugh, When my track record's longer than a DC-20 aircraft,
So, next time that you think you want somethin here, Make somethin deffer, take that garbage to St. Elsewhere!"

1. Scenario (AGAIN THIS ENTIRE VERSE IS AMAZING)
"Ay yo Bo knows this, and Bo knows that, but Bo don't know jack cuz Bo can't rap, WHADDAYAKNOW THE di-Dawg is first up to bat bat, no batteries included and no strings attached.... But here's the real scoop, I'm all that and then some, short, dark and handsome, bust a nut inside your eye to show you where I come (cum) from"

Vision's Vibes: Jändō - WAMB (Weed and my B***h)

Ever so often I get tracks sent to me and usually I tend to just throw them out or pass on them because a good amount of then really aren't that good. Still, every once in a while, I get a track that sticks out and I can vibe to. Shout out to my boy Ant (another SBP alum) for sending me this track. Definitely a track with an awesome sound that gives us more Kendrick and less young thug, which I think is needed. Check out WAMB (Weed and My B***h) by Jändö. You can find them on Soundcloud,  Twitter and Youtube. Enjoy their debut single!

Spotlight: The Resurrection of St. Benedicts

So this week I had trouble thinking about what I would post and then it dawned on me. It had been in front of my face the entire time! My high school St. Benedict's Prep was featured on 60 Minutes! I know many people say their high school was really cool or really different but when I say that I completely mean it and express that with pride and the fact that the rest of the world gets to see that makes me happy. So I'm excited to share the 3 segments, that were featured this past Sunday on 60 Minutes, here.

One thing you may not know is that all three members of VOQ are actually graduates of SBP and that's one of the reasons our bond is so tight. Also when it comes to the Tri-state area and just the world over I'm sure you'll find people who basically rock on all levels who just so happen to be graduates of the The Hive, as we so endearingly call it. So without out any further delay check out the awesome 60 Minutes segment on my alma mater, St. Benedict's Prep. *Jumps up* BENEDICTS UH OH!!! *Adjust suit and tie and sits back down* Enjoy!

Preview: From 60 Minutes: "Whatever hurts my brother hurts me"

Full 60 Minutes Segment: From 60 Minutes: The Resurrection of St. Benedict's

60 Minutes Overtime Segment: From 60 Minutes Overtime: A whole new meaning for the black hoodie

Album Review: Untitled Unmastered - Kendrick Lamar

So the Hip Hop Gods (and apparently Lebron James) shined upon us (and gave me something to blog about this week) with the release of Kendrick Lamar's surprise EP, Untitled Unmastered. The tracks are all just that. None of the tracks have names but they are timestamped to give us an indication for when they were recorded. I go into my review which I give my thoughts on Kendrick's new album. What I also do is give my vision of what this album would have been called and the track names had Kendrick decided to go that route. This is all my opinion and speculation. Check it out below!

Kendrick Lamar - Untitled Unmastered (or [The] Gemini)
  1. Untitled 01 | 08.19.2014 (or The Gemini/Young Nigga) - A great starter to Kendrick's surprise EP. He starts us off with a pimpish sounding gentleman that lulls us a little right before the drop of the beat as he jumps in head first lyrically. Reminiscent of something straight out of the mid 90s gritty MC era this tracks sets the tone for what turns out to be a low key and consistent EP.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)
  2. Untitled 02 | 06.23.2014 (or On the Phone) - My favorite track on the album. This head knocking beat and Choral track was focused more on sending a message and less on being too lyrical. It is also alleged to be a drake and Jay electronica diss. Great track nonetheless!  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 (4.25 Stars)
  3. Untitled 03 | 05.28.2013 (or Spoken World/What the People Say) - This imagery/story driven track that we've come to  know Kendrick for delivers on beat, message and lyrics. Soulful melodies and slick lyrics makes this an easy listen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)
  4. Untitled 04 | 08.14.2014 (or Head is the answer/What's the Answer? Interlude) - I had to laugh at this one the first couple of times I heard it. I had to make sure I was hearing it correctly. I also had to decide if it was an actual track or just an interlude. Since Kendrick doesn't spit on it and leaves the message "head is the answer" as the focus, I chose to  count it as an interlude. (Meets Standards)
  5. Untitled 05 | 09.21.2014 (or Means the World) - A Jazz infused beat that I felt epitomized the section 80/Overly Dedicated Kendrick. The background horns make for a well placed clash to the gritty lyrics from Mr. Lamar.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)
  6. Untitled 06 | 06.30.2014 (or Explain ft. Cee Lo Green) - My second favorite track (not just because it features Cee Lo Green). This track is more lighthearted and something for the ladies. Smooth and melodic is the best way to describe this one. Definitely a song that keeps your head moving and your foot tapping. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/4 (4.25 Stars)
  7. Untitled 07 | 2014-2016 (or High as This/This that Shit/Levitate/Head is the answer [in the studio]) - Solid tracks. This extended joint gives a listen to a few tracks which include a raw version of the interlude "Head is the answer" (my name for it) or Untitled 4 as you may know it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)
  8. Untitled 08 | 09.06.2014 (or Blue Faces/The Blues) - A quality end to a strong showing from Kendrick. This funk inspired track addresses the tough times that some of us may go through. Funky beat, catchy flow and soothing background vocals help to leave us satisfied with the end of this gem that Kendrick blessed us with. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)

Overall rating: 4/5
Overall a really good showing for Kendrick. Any of these tracks could have easily made To Pimp A Butterfly and still made it pop. No song sticks out so vividly that it changes my life (which is often a possibility when listening to Kendrick) but there were tracks I'd add to my rotation or bump in passing. Definitely something that will get some play In the next month or few weeks and a nice primer to hold us over until the next major Kendrick Lamar release. You can stream the EP via Spotify (Free) or Tidal (30 free trial/$9.99/mo after).

What to Watch: Tough Love Web Series

Ever so often, when I am browsing the internet, I find a show or a youtube page that catches my attention. I'll watch for a bit, be entertained and maybe lose interest after about a week or two and then I'll move on to the next one. The show I'm going to share with you is not one of these shows. I was thoroughly entertained and engaged the entire time with an AMAZING web series called Tough Love. Though I'd love to go into a detailed break down of the show and it's characters I'd rather give you a brief synopsis and have you watch for yourself.
The show follows the lives of 6 young, black, educated and attractive millennials living in New York City as they go through their daily trials and tribulations with love, sex, work and everything in between. Each of he 6 are the "main" characters and at one time or another have their lives highlighted through the show. The six characters are Quincy and Alicia (The long-term couple), Monica and Darius (The unofficial/back and forth couple), Jackson (The Savage aka Ruthless Bachelor) and Jordan (The Single Lady aka My boo). One thing I enjoyed about the show was the range of lifestyles of the characters. From a street hustler (Darius) to independent business owners (Quincy and Alicia) to investment banking (Jackson). It shows how truly diverse young black people of color are and can be.
The thing that stood out to me the most was how beautifully and un-apologetically black this show is. There are very few shows on television or major streaming sites that accurately portray young black millennials to this extent and to me it is truly needed. It is a great show to watch, entertaining and I'm excited to see what season two has to offer! To make that happen, the show needs some help. They funded the entire first season on their own and to make the second season happen they have started a GoFundMe page. Once you watch this show you'll realize why they need a season two. I am donating and you should too. It's important to support  other young, beautiful black people doing great things in the areas of art and entertainment so that we can continue to prosper and grow as a people. Even if you're not black, support this show just because it's quality entertainment and will get you all hot and bothered from watching all the on screen eye candy.
Again, I don't want to draw on too much. Go watch the series for yourself! Below is a trailer for the show, the entire first season, their call to action video for their GoFundMe and how you can connect with the Tough Love Web Series online! That's all for now!

Sole Religion: Jordan 11 "Space Jam" and Jordan 3 "True Blue" to Release This Year

I see the lines forming now! Several sources have confirmed that both the Jordan XI "Space Jam" and the Jordan III "True Blue" will be releasing this fall. So all of you who missed out on the 2009 release of the Space Jams and the 2011 release of the True Blues will have a second chance at redemption.
The Space Jams are releasing in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the movie toting the same name. Apparently Warner Brothers and Jordan Brand are also working together and have special licensing on merchandise that will tie into the anniversary (See nice kicks). Its also been stated that the release will NOT be identical to the original 2000 release. Could we see a special release including the DVD or maybe even MJs space jam jersey? Who knows, but what we do know is that this will easily be one of the highlight releases of the year.
The True Blues will be boasting the coveted "Nike Air" logo instead of the Jordan "Jumpman". They will also, most likely, have a heavier price tag attached which is something we have seen from Jordan Brand year after year. A worthy price for a worthy shoe I guess. We also have confirmed November 25th date for the True Blues as it is the Black Friday release for 2016. So mark your calendars, synchronize your watches, and dust off the tents because the Jammies and the Blues are coming guys! So for now its just time to wait...... and also shamelessly plug that I sell all of the latest Jordan Brand and Adidas releases via my website Sole Religion. You can also inquire with me through TwitterInstagram, and Facebook on whatever releases you're looking for whether it be old or new! Now that's all I got for you guys on the sneaker end but look out for another post soon. More pics after the jump!

Album Review: The Life of Pablo (T.L.O.P.) - Kanye West

Hey! It's been a while since I took the time to review an album. So it's only right that I dust off my blogger cape and bring back my reviews for Kanye's highly anticipated The Life of Pablo (T.L.O..P). I rate each song on a 5 star scale also assigning quarters and halves where I see fit. I also didn't give tracks that weren't songs star ratings instead I assigned either below, meets or exceeds standards on its placement on the album and how it assisted the transition. I also give detailed looks at my opinion of each song (if it warranted such). So check it out!!

The Life of Pablo (T.L.O.P.)
  1. Ultra Light Beam - Phenomenal song that transcends this album, like other classics before it, that takes us to church both literally and figuratively. The addition of Chance the Rapper, Kelly Price, The Dream and Kirk Franklin help to round off what might be one of the best Kanye songs ever. The only gripe I have about this track is that he didn't save it for the end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 Stars)
  2. Father Stretch My Hands - one of my favorite songs on the album. Simple as that. Beat is awesome, Kid Cudi's on it, and yea that's about it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 (4.5 Stars)
  3. Pt. 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)
  4. Famous - A true to form Kanye track with a banging beat that leaves a lot to be desired on the lyrical side but definitely keeps your head moving.  Rihanna's singing and Swiss Beatz on the production end makes a nice addition to this track. ⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4 (3.75 Stars)
  5. Feedback - More lyricism and word play on this track and another head knocking beat and one of the harder tracks on the album.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)
  6. Low Light - Solid transitional interlude and adds to the gospel like tone of Ultra Light Beam but isn't as great in the continuity aspect in the overall scheme of the album. It would have been a great Outro to go after what should have been the last track (Ultra Light Beam). (Meets Standards)
  7. Highlights - A more dance/party song that plays more to the modern radio worthy songs. I could see this track as a huge radio hit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4 (3.75 Stars)
  8. Freestyle 4 Blah. That's about all I could muster to say about his one. ⭐️⭐️1/2 (2.5 stars)
  9. I love Kanye - A cheeky track that gives us Kanye in his essence and you can't help but to enjoy it for the buffoonery that it is. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3 stars)
  10. Waves - I can imagine this being played in the club. Dope track in terms of production and sound. The usual bravado of Kanye with the melodic voice of Chris Brown makes this the albums resident drunk anthem. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)
  11. FML - This is a more experimental weeknd-ish style of track featuring of course The Weeknd who is as hot as ever right now. Again is a song that plays more to the radio than anything else is still a melodic track nonetheless. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)
  12. Real Friends - Probably one of the best songs on the album and reminiscent of the Kanye that we love the most. Adding both a great sound and message about the friendships that occur and how fame plays a role in them. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 (4.5 Stars)
  13. Wolves - Amazing song that is like a happy medium between 808s and Heartbreaks and Yeezus Kanye. My question is: How'd Kanye get Frank Ocean to be on T.L.O.P. before he was on his own album!? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 (4.5 stars)
  14. Silver Surfer Intermission - loved that he actually got Max Bs blessing should have gone before or after waves would have added so much more to that track. (Exceeds standards)
  15. 30 hours - reminds us of the late registration/graduation Kanye where he was in my opinion at his lyrical pinnacle and the song that stole the show. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 Stars)
  16. No More Parties in LA - This was the Kanye that was producing beats for Mos Def and common and trying to put himself on. Many mainstream music lovers have no clue who Madlib is but that very well might change because of this track. The combo of Madlib and Kendrick is musical porn to those who lean more on the "conscious" or "underground" style of rap and this song delivers on all levels. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4 (4.75 Stars)
  17. Facts - The sound of the times influenced this track. The type of track you could bump when you're trying to stunt or just chilling with the homies. A song that might have easily fit on Watch the Throne, you could call it Niggas in Paris reprised. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 (3.5 Stars)
  18. Fade - A proverbial cherry top on top to the variety of sounds we get from Kanye on this album, Fade tapers us off with a smooth underground house vibe that you can fade off to (pun intended). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars)

Overall rating: 3.75/5
One subtlety that I loved about the album was his use of sample snippets for virtually every sample he used. We get a peak into the sound of the original song and works as an homage to each of the songs original creators and the style of production we've come to expect from Kanye. Based simply on ratings, the grade I gave the album was a 4 out of 5 but I took off .25 because many of the songs, on their own, make great songs but In the cohesion of this album didn't fit as smoothly as we would expect from Kanye. T.L.O.P. is good but not great. It, in my opinion, just missed the mark and falls somewhere in the lower end of the Kanye albums list. Let's hear your opinion! Let me know what you think of The Life of Pablo! ***T.L.O.P. is streaming exclusively on Tidal. You try Tidal Free for 90 days. After it'll set you back $9.99/month***
