 First and foremost I have to say I am pretty stoked about this post off the simple fact that I AM FEATURED ON ONE OF THE TRACKS!!! VOQ's favorite rapper Sah Ril has been releasing exclusive tracks to a select group of supporters, bloggers, and musical connoisseurs over the past few weeks and we were lucky enough to get a chance to be included in that bunch. This is all in preparation for his upcoming Back Where the Pain is Vol. 3: Art, Fear, and Loathing release. Some tracks were released a while back and were possible cuts from the album, while others are never heard releases from Sah and others (like producer Danimal whom we have blogged about before). Each track is fire all the same. According to Sah these are all tracks that didn't make the album. With the caliber of tracks here I am all too excited to see what did. I'm currently in my office, at my desk...sneaking this post. Lol because I wanted you all to feel the same sense of relief and pleasure while watching this in the midst of a mundane day at work or in class perfecting your hustle as well. I can't tell you how many early mornings I spent listening to "Ambitious Girl" while commuting to NYC to lug samples around for Vibe Magazine in the middle of a heat wave or late at night while I hung on by a thread finishing a ton of homework.

I'm sure I speak for the ladies when I say that the grind is always personally worthwhile, but it feels really good to have a guy (especially one as adorable as Wale) acknowledge how hard we work and how focused we are with our passions. It's about time he matched a picture with his words. I love the clarity and sincerity of the visuals in the video. Gotta keep this super brief, but enjoy!

Watch the Throne: The Recovery

VOQ Friends & Fam!!!..it's been a mean minute. I've been busy running the streets, chasing dreams, and well....watching my own damn throne. Ha! When I found out I was going to be attending the most legendary concert of our time I KNEW I was going to do a post on my experience...I didn't know I was going to be so blown away by it that it would take me a week to collect my thoughts LoL but here's the run down...


Thanks immensely to a homie of mine, D. Fenelus (@dfenelus) I was treated as an early birthday gift to head to the IZOD Center last Saturday. As if the offer alone wasn't amazing enough, I almost passed out when I found out that he scored floor seats!!! My anticipation was through the roof.


Fast forward to the lights going out and the instrumental for "H.A.M" being cued...as soon as I saw Kanye in his ill ass graphic tee and leather kilt (LoL only 'Ye man), I knew history was about to be made. Hov appeared on his own LED-covered platform and it was just overrrrr for me. Seriously, the graphics, the lights, the lazers...just..brilliant.


As Sid mentioned, they not only performed all the hits off of the WTT album, but their own individual hits as well. What I loved the MOST was the energy and passion that Jay-Z and Kanye STILL have for songs that were created damn near a decade ago. I was close enough to see a genuine smile on Hov's face when he deaded the beat and just straight spit "Jigga What" like he was back in that first moment. That's love. & Kanye's witty breaks here and there were cool too lol...honestly,their years of friendship and appreciation for each other's genius was so evident on stage it really made you feel good to be a fan. <3


I could go on and on forever about how much I truly enjoyed myself. No gas, Jay-Z and Kanye are the kings. If you were not in attendance you are not allowed to argue. Lmao. Much respect to them for their vision. The show was a complete success in my opinion. Hov and 'Ye...thank you for your talent, your creativity, and your 3 rounds of  "Nxggas in Paris" before the show was through. Love, VOQ

"...And their Eyes were Watching the Throne"

Mind Blowing. Phenomenal. Life Changing. Unreal. These are just a few words I could use to describe the concert I had the pleasure of attending this past Saturday. Kanye West and Jay-'s Watch the Throne concert at the Izod Center in East Rutherford New Jersey was simply exquisite. I owe it all in full to one of my close friends, Atterbury (@TheGrizzest), whom I've known since high school. He had a connect who was selling tickets and I leaped at the opportunity to get a pair. Mad my way to the concert and was BLOWN AWAY! Jay-Z and Kanye know how to put on a great show and keep the crowd live. Not only did they perfrom tracks from their collab release Watch the Throne but they did a hefty fill of their other hits as well. Kanye did plenty of hits from "Jesus Walks" to "Runaway". Hov really showed the extent of his catalog doing some classics from "Where I'm from" to "On to the next one". It truly was an enjoyable show. Easily the best concert I've ever been to. I have plenty of pics to enjoy and some video that I decided to share with you guys. Does'nt even do it justice but nonetheless, ENJOI!

These past few days have been very difficult for me and the rest of Nittany Lion Nation in light of the Sexual Abuse scandal that has made both national and international news. Tonight the most troubling scenario imaginable that most of us in the PSU community feared came to reality as our beloved head coach for over 40 yrs, Joe Paterno, a legend, an icon was fired by the Board of Trustees along with the President of the school Graham Spanier. We have recently bombarded you with plenty of music and funnies on the blog here and I know there are plenty wondering "where's all the sneaker news". I have to say that in recent history I have been quite out of the sneakerhead loop. It saddens my heart to even say that BUT FRET NOT MY SNEAKER AFICIONADOS for I come to you bearing sneaker news!! New SNEAKER NEWS!! Penny Hardaway and Lebron James are probably the only athletes who have a line of sneakers that have been able to compete with Michael Jordan's over the years. And The fact that they are all owned by Nike brand says so much more. Today I want to talk about quite possibly the best new sneaker release of the year. My focus today is on the newest ode to Penny: The Nike Zoom Rookie LWP. These shoes have have taken the sneaker community by storm and created some noise in the sneaker game. A hybrid shoe taking bits and pieces of shoes that Penny has worn over his career its sleek design and clean finish makes a good look and an easy purchase for sneaker fanatic and occasional sneaker lover alike. With the first release occurring this past Thursday with the Pearl (Glow in the Dark) LWP quickstrike the shoes have started the 4th quarter of the sneaker year of quite nicely. The next color way to watch out for is the Binary Blue due out Nov 12th according to a tweet I received from @Nikestore. These are just two of the many colorways expected to make their debut this year and moving forward into 2012. So look out for all of them. I know for sure I'll be adding a few pairs of these to my collection along with some classic Foamposites as well. I have to say I am really excited about these releases and I care what you think too. It's that time of year again folks. Black entertainment television had its one spark of hope. On a channel that I (and this is a personal choice) choose not to watch there was the now infamous BET Cyphers. The Buzz from this years Cyphers were aplenty. The most talked about being the Shady 2.0 Cypher featuring Yelawolf, SlaghterHouse (Joe Budden, Crooked I, Joel Ortiz, and Royce Da 5'9) and Eminem. Noetheless, there were other Cyphers and so I figure why not post it for all of you who, like me, didn't/don't watch the Nig.. I mean the BET Awards. There were some strong verses and some weak ones like every cypher. If there was one pair of Js I love to see retroed it's Jordan Xs. And according to all the latest that's what's going to be happening come January 2012. The Chicago Xs will be dropped for the first time since their OG 1995 release. I have to say I'm pretty excited about this. Xs on the low have to be my favorite j's to just wear. They are simple classy and they let the colorways do the talking. So I will be purchasing my pair as soon as they come out along with ever other sneaker/Jordan connoisseur out there. Those of you that have been following us for a while may have seen or heard about a little task I gave myself a little over a year ago. I made a list of 101 things that I wanted to accomplish in 1001. And I hhave to say that after a year I feel like I haven't accomplished much. I have done a ew things and burnt out on others but that is partially due to me forgetting my list. When you get caught up in all the troubles and intricacies of life you forget what you set out to do and sometimes you forget to live. Im trying to get back to living!!! DOERNBECHER!!!!

I know you've all missed me so much :) but I've been steady getting my life together. It's now time for me to get back at you guys with more and more lovely post STARTING TODAY!! I was browsing sneaker sites for what new heat will be hitting the streets and what else would catch my eye but the newest Jordan Doernbecher release. This time around they went with Jordan IVs. They've done some quite nifty designs with IIIs and VIs And now they take a second crack at the Jordan VIs. These funky retros will definitely be head turner black with arrow designs up and down the shoe give it an unorthodox vibe which is common place with a Doernbecher rendition of any shoe. A superman logo, tough blue net stitching, green laces and mid sole make the shoe pop. Along with the VIs these would have to be up there as one of my favorite Doernbecher design. No set release date but I'm sure they will be on the way soon! Once we know You will too.. Just take a gander at the pics after the jump! ENJOI!!

MC Lyte & The 'U' (Yeah Seriously)

A few years ago when I started this music journey thing I knew there would be moments like these that would make me pause for a moment and leave me speechless. Last week I performed with, spoke to, and hung out with the Michael Jordan of female MC's. MC Lyte is one of the pillars of Hip Hop Music along with Run DMC, DJ Premier, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, Salt & Pepper, LL Cool J and countless others. It was an out of body experience. I B-Boxed (yes I knw how to lol) for her while she freestyled to kick the show off, performed Self-Destruction with her, and freestyled myself on stage with a certified legend (she said I was dope-sidebar lol). All of this was captured on film & in pix by my homie Randy Troy and will be in the upcoming #NoDaysOff Documentary that will accompany the #NoDaysOff EP dropping later this year. Hola visions readers. Today I just felt compelled to do a post on an artist who just does it all. He raps, produces, an established actor, comedian and all around overachiever. This guy's hustle just never ends. I'm talking about Donald Glover. You don't know who that is? You may know him by another name: Childish Gambino. He has made power moves to take his rap career to the next level and I have to say I've become a fan of his come up. A Drake-esque style and similar actor turned rapper path CG has a very in your face, raw, open, and utterly catchy style and delivery. More of a punchline guy he has some very clever lines in his verses. "Alright Gambino is a mastermind, fuck a bitch to past the time, mass appeal orange line, you smoke your green I'm spending mine, the beat is witches brew so beware this shit is potent, ee cumin in her face call it poetry in motion" although a bit vulgar this bar from 'Freaks and Geeks' hooked me from the Jump. He is also very real all too often we catch artist trying to talk about things they have no business talking about but CG isn't one of them. From Touching on his plight with girls to worrying about people not believing in him, Childish goes through and helps to make the soundtrack to every male early 20 something year olds life. Im looking forward to hearing more from him and what a full length mixtape has to offer but I'm down with the CG movement. He is also on tour and I'm totally looking for some tickets but I hear they are a hard find. If you guys got a hook up let me know!! One More Time For The Ladies

My heart was all a'flutter as I got hit with all things wonderful upon the news of Elle Magazine's new issue launch. The "Women In Music" issue features 12 female artists that demonstrate insane talent, crazy style, and endless swag on the regular. I love that the dozen are a combination of both rookies and vets and that Elle really handpicked a variety of artists that cover all genres. Gwen Stefani is the star of the show, however, Miss Nicki Minaj also landed a well-deserved cover shot. Others include Willow Smith, Adele, and Jennifer Hudson as well as some true queens in the game like Aretha Franklin.

It's really refreshing to come across yet another movement of unity and women's empowerment through such a universal outlet as music and art. & of course this post wouldn't be true to form if I didn't also mention the sick styling within this spread!! I'm practically drooling over Nicki's mini dress by designer Mark Fast, and I adore that dope origami-inspired skirt wrapped around tiny little Willow. (More on my obsession after I actually cop the issue LoL).

MTV peeped the fact that neither Katy Perry nor Rihanna made the final 12, which I must agree was a little surprising. They also dropped some great quotes from Gwen Stefani on how she feels about some of the newcomers and the image that they're striving for, claiming that despite what many say, she sees very little influence of herself in them. All in all, I'm really excited about the issue which hits stands April 12th. Elle really scored big with combining the style, beauty, talent, and charisma of a group of ladies that surely have a story to tell. I highly encourage anyone who is as passionate as I am about music, fashion, and girl power to support this dope editorial piece!!

SNEAKER POST!! I know I know we haven't had one in a while but this one without a doubt makes up for all the sneaker news we have missed out on. This year seems to be the year of the VIIs (Which just so happens to be my favorite pair of Jays). There are 2 major releases that drop this month and one that cam out in march that have the sneaker world buzzing. The Orion Blue VIIs dropped last month to some critical acclaim. They are definitely a clean shoe and a must cop in my book. The only downside would be that they are a General Release so don't expect to be the only one with them on. This month has 2 super special VII releases. Another new colorway and a very sought after quickstrike called the "year of the rabbit". This have a slight resemblance to the Hare VIIs yet clearly are their own shoe. These you will have to do some hunting for and trust you will want to grab yourself a pair if you can! No set release date nut they are slated to release around eater (whenever that is lol). And last but most definitely not least the amazing and magnificent re-release of the Jordan VII Bordeauxs. These will go quickly I am quite sure because some people have waited 2 decades just to get there hands on a pair. So plot and Plan now because on April 16th these lovely sneakers will grace stores nation wide. So sneakerheads lace up and get ready for these awesome releases. ENJOI! (Pics after the Jump!!)
